Telehealth

Eligibility Map
Eligibility note - Using the map on the link above, the areas in GREEN are NOT eligible for Telehealth services with this practice. All other areas are eligible, as are all nursing homes no matter their location.

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth is a 3-way consultation between the specialist, the patient's GP or nurse practitioner and the patient. The consultation takes place at the GP's surgery or healthcare facility closest to the patient, including nursing homes. This service makes it easier for patients living in remote areas or registered aged care facilities to have access to their specialist over a video link. it allows ready access to specialist advice so the primary physician can implement appropriate management plans rapidly and ideally local, without the patient having to commute long-distances. Telehealth also facilitates communication between medical care providers and ongoing case based discussion and education between medical professionals.

Who is Eligible?

All patients living within REMOTE areas and/or who have difficulty commuting to specialists appointments are eligible for Telehealth (Please click link above for map).
Also, any patient in a RESIDENTIAL AGED CARE FACILITY are eligible, regardless of the location in Australia.

What are the Benefits?

Benefits include:
1.      The consultation with your GP and specialist allows for thorough communication between your team of health care professionals
2.      Eliminates the need for patients and/or carers to travel excessive distance for suitable healthcare
The consultation is fully covered by Medicare, meaning no extra cost to the patient.

For Health Professionals

One appointment per year in our Charlestown rooms is desirable depending on the complexity of the case.
Our preferred software for Telehealth appointments is Scopia. This is a medico-legally secure system and quite easy to use. Skype may be used in other cases.
Please click the link below to learn how to get started with Scopia.
